JOB SUMMARY
Performs histological procedures to prepare surgical specimens for diagnostic pathology. Utilizes resources and techniques effectively according to established policies and procedures. Maintains skill and knowledge to promote the Histology Department’s services.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical specimens for diagnostic pathology.
- Utilize resources and techniques effectively according to established policies and procedures.
- Maintain skill and knowledge to promote Histology Department services.
Schedule / Shift
- Day shift
- Monday - Friday
- No weekends or holidays
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of a one-year accredited histology program.
- Basic computer skills.
Certifications
- Histotechnician or Histotechnologist Certification.
- ASCP registration.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in histology.
- Knowledgeable regarding all aspects of the histology department.
- Knowledgeable regarding surgical and autopsy pathology.
- Knowledgeable regarding the identification and embedding of all tissue specimens.
- Knowledgeable regarding the cutting and mounting of tissue specimens.
- Knowledgeable in H & E staining and cover slipping of all tissue specimens.
- Knowledgeable in the preparation of frozen sections.
- Knowledgeable in the performance of special histochemical procedures.
