Registered Nurse - Emergency Room

Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room (ER) is responsible for providing rapid assessment, treatment, and compassionate care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies. This role works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver high-quality patient care in a fast-paced emergency department environment.

The ideal candidate possesses strong clinical judgment, critical thinking skills, and the ability to prioritize care effectively while managing multiple patients with varying levels of acuity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patient Assessment & Emergency Care
  • Perform comprehensive patient assessments, triage evaluations, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Prioritize patient care based on severity of illness or injury.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and emergency interventions as prescribed.
  • Recognize and respond promptly to changes in patient condition.
  • Provide care for patients experiencing trauma, cardiac events, respiratory distress, neurological emergencies, and other acute medical conditions.
  • Clinical Procedures & Treatment
  • Initiate and maintain intravenous (IV) access and administer IV medications and fluids.
  • Assist physicians with emergency procedures and diagnostic testing.
  • Operate and monitor emergency and life-support equipment.
  • Collect patient specimens and coordinate diagnostic services as needed.
  • Implement evidence-based nursing practices and emergency care protocols.
  • Care Coordination & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, paramedics, technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  • Participate in patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Communicate patient status, treatment plans, and outcomes to healthcare team members.
  • Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge instructions.
  • Documentation & Compliance
  • Accurately document patient assessments, care provided, treatments, and outcomes in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Maintain compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and patient safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control standards.
  • Support quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Emergency Preparedness
  • Respond effectively during medical emergencies, trauma activations, and disaster response situations.
  • Maintain readiness to care for high-acuity patients requiring immediate intervention.
  • Participate in emergency response drills and department training activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
  • Previous acute care nursing experience or emergency nursing experience, as required by the facility.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Previous Emergency Room, Trauma, Critical Care, or Intensive Care Unit (ICU) experience.
  • Experience working in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center.
  • Knowledge of emergency department workflows, triage protocols, and emergency medicine practices.
  • Experience caring for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patient populations.

Certifications (If Any)
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) License – Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – Required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification – Required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification – Preferred/Required per facility
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification – Preferred
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) Certification – Preferred
Note- Travel Experience Required
