The Registered Nurse – PCU provides direct patient care to step-down patients with cardiac, respiratory, and medical-surgical conditions. This role involves continuous monitoring of telemetry, administering medications and therapies, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring safe, high-quality patient outcomes. Nurses in this unit also float to medical-surgical units as needed, maintaining accurate documentation and compliance with hospital standards.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct patient care to PCU/Step-Down patients with complex conditions
Monitor cardiac telemetry, vital signs, and patient responses to treatment
Administer medications and therapies including IV therapies and blood products
Assess patient conditions and promptly report changes to the healthcare team
Collaborate with physicians and teams to develop and implement patient care plans
Educate patients and families regarding medications, treatment plans, and discharge instructions
Float to medical-surgical units as needed and manage appropriate patient assignments
Maintain accurate EMR documentation ensuring compliance with hospital policies and patient safety standards
Respond to rapid patient changes and participate in emergency interventions
Required Qualifications
Active BLS certification
Active ACLS certification
Active NIHSS certification
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience in PCU or step-down units
Strong background in cardiac and respiratory care
